THE PRECEPTS (규칙) (교회 5규) 

The Precepts(규칙) of the Catholic Church are a description(기술, 서술) of the absolute minimum actions(최소한의 규정) required of Catholics regarding(~에 관한) the Church. The Church uses these precepts to remind(상기시키다) us that Christian life requires a commitment(약속, 전념) to prayer and active participation(참여) in the liturgy and sacraments. If we fall below this bare-minimum(최소한의) level, then, practically speaking,(구체적, 실제적으로 말하면) we can hardly consider ourselves to be in full communion with the Catholic Church.

Out of love for Christ(그리스도를 사랑하는 마음으로) and a desire to advance in the spiritual life, you will normally “strive”(분투하다, 노력하다) to do far more than they require.

First Precept(첫 번째 규칙): “You shall attend Mass on Sunday and holy days of obligation and rest from servile labor.” 모든 주일과 대축일에 미사 참례하고 의무적 대축일에는 파공(직업적인 노동으로부터 쉼)을 지킬 것

Strive: Attend Mass at least one more time a week. (Most Church parishes celebrate Mass every day of the year!)

부가적인 노력 : 적어도 한 주간에 한 번 이상 미사에 참례할 것 (대부분의 본당에서는 연중 매일 미사를 드린다)

Second Precept: “You shall confess your sins at least once a year.”

두 번째 규칙 : 일 년에 적어도 한번 이상 고해성사를 받을 것

Strive: Go to confession at least once a month, and immediately after falling to mortal sin(대죄: 영혼을 죽이는 죄). Also, find a regular confessor so he can give you better guidance.

부가적인 노력: 적어도 한 달에 한 번씩은 고해성사를 받되, 대죄를 범했을 때에는 즉시 고해성사를 받을 것. 또한 당신을 좀 더 잘 인도해 줄 수 있는 단골 고해신부를 찾을 것.

Third Precept: “You shall humbly receive your Creator in Holy Communion at least during the Easter season.”

세 번째 규칙 : 적어도 부활시기 동안 성체 안에 계시는 창조주 하느님을 겸손된 마음으로 받아 모실 것

Strive: Receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist at every Mass if you meet the guidelines for reception (are free from mortal sin, etc.).

부가적인 노력 : 만약 대죄 등으로부터 사함을 받을 수 있는 안내를 받았다면, 매일 미사에서 성체를 받아 모셔도 된다.

Fourth Precept: “You shall observe the prescribed days of fasting and abstinence.”

네 번째 규칙 : 정한 날의 단식제와 금육재를 지킬 것

Strive: Make a habit of practicing penitential and charitable acts beyond those required by the precepts of the Catholic Church. Try to abstain from meat on Fridays throughout the year, for example.

부가적인 노력 : 교회가 요구하는 규칙을 넘어서 이웃사랑을 실천하는 등 실천적 신앙인이 되도록 습관을 들일 것. 예건대, 연중 금요일마다 육식을 삼가는 등...

Fifth Precept: “You shall provide for the material needs of the Church.”

다섯 번째 규칙 : 교회의 물질적 요구를 제공할 것

Strive: Contribute as much as possible to the material needs of the Church. Consider working toward biblical tithing: 10% of your gross income.

부가적인 노력 : 가능한 한 교회의 물질적 요구를 충족할 만큼 기부할 것. 성경에 십일조: 총 수입의 10%를 규정하고 있음을 고려할 것.
